Bottled Water Is Not Regulated (much)
That's right. You would think that the FDA would have us covered on bottled water safety. But, for bottled water safety, it's time to think for yourself. However, take this quote from the FDA to heart: "Companies that market bottled water as being safer than tap water are defrauding the American public." U.S. FDA

You may be throwing your money away
Over time, for you to rely on bottle water for safe drinking water, you may very well be spending much more than any other source of safe drinking water. Every time I think about my investment in my Enagic Inc LeveLuk SD 501 ionized water machine, I pick up a calculator. I've realized that over the expected life span (before expected repairs), you will spend as much on cheap bottled water. That's right, over a span of 15 years, you can expect to spend as much on cheap bottled water as you would on quality alkaline ionized water from your machine.
Okay, here's some math. The going rate for cheap bottle water is about $4.00 for a 24 litre bottle case. That's about $0.17/bottle. I'm drinking about 5.5 litres per day, so...
That's $5119 over 15 years for just the cheap noname brand water. We haven't even factored in the use of water for cooking. Are you going to use your bottled water for cooking? Probably not.
This cost estimate of roughly $5000 over 15 years is for common consumption and with the cheapest water on the market. If you chose to but designer water, your costs will be much higher.
I think there is no comparison, really. If you plan to drink designer (overpriced) bottled water, you will far exceed the expense of a quality alkaline ionized water machine. And you won't be getting the benefits that the ionized water will bring to your health.
For price comparison, I found some alkaline ionized water (something) at a quality market. This water was selling for $1.50 per litre bottle. Sadly, for the consumer, that this water can't have all the qualities of fresh alkaline ionized water straight from the tap.
The FDA's Declaration of "Drinking Water"
Our friends at the FDA have declared that for a bottled water to be "labeled" "Drinking Water", it must have been produced thought a reverse osmosis process. It is our opinion (from much research) that water filtered though RO is not safe to drink. This is so because reverse osmosis strips the water of much desired minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium. Your body craves these minerals, and consuming water void of these minerals will act to remove them from your system. Not good.
Toxins in your drinking water from plastic bottles
There is much controversy over the idea that toxins from plastic bottled can leach into your water. The only positive note on this topic that this author had found in research came from a plastics industry lobyist website.
Bottled water solution?
Before you run off and buy some more bottled water, please understand that bottled water is even less regulated than any municipal water source. And it is my personal position to avoid bottled water when I can and drink my filtered and alkaline ionized water.
